Melvin Jones Fellow awarded to our President Gael HarveyOn Friday 20th November 2020 the Lions Club of Rye bestowed a significant award on its current President Gael Harvey.
The Lions Club of Rye has a strict criteria that must be met by recipients of this prestigious award and this means that the person being honoured has to have been a significant contributor to the Lions Club of Rye's program over several years.
Needless to say President Gael was stunned when presented this award by Lion Bob Beard and is now a proud Melvin Jones Fellow.
New BBQ Trailer - Almost thereWith the assistance of the Rye Bendigo Bank who generously provided a grant to fund a new BBQ trailer we are in the home straight and should be about to use our new unit when the current COVID restrictions ease.
The photo shows the trailer during the fit out stage and we have now completed the work and it is ready for use. We are happy with the result and we are sure that it will be something that our Lions and the community will get a great deal of use from in the future.
Lions Presentation to Community GroupsThe Lions Club of Rye has much pleasure in passing on several cheques to a number of community groups at regular functions at their Lions Shed at the Rowley Reserve in Rye.
The groups gather for a "happy Hour" on a regular basis and after socialising and joining each other in friendship donations to assist the groups in their endeavours are passed to those present.
The donations that the above photo relates to show donations being made to Rosebud/Sorrento SES, SMP Connect (Chisholm), Myositis Association, Mornington Peninsula Post Polio Group, RoadSafe South East, Sorrento Sea Scouts, Portsea Camp, Coffee with a Cop, Sorrento Sea Scouts, Licola Wild 4 youth program and camp program, Rye Primary School and Childhood Cancer. In all over $16,000.
Donations to the groups were made possible by the public support of the Lions Annual Boat Raffle.
Rye Lions supporting the RCH Good Friday AppealGood Friday each hear sees the Lions Club of Rye feeding the highway collectors from the Uncle Bob's Club as they make their way (pushing a wheelbarrow) from Sorrento to Dromana.
Each year the Uncle Bob's Club supported by the Mornington Peninsula Tourism Association and the Lions Club of Rye team together for a very successful fundraising exercise raising money for the Royal Children's Hospital.
Each year this activity is bigger and better than the previous year and thanks are extended to all involved in this activity.
Bendigo Bank - Promotional Free BBQEach month on the 3rd Thursday the Lions Club of Rye offers free sausages in bread to members of the public as a promotion for the Rye Branch of the Bendigo Bank. Sausages are given away free of charge between the hours of 10.00am and 1.00pm and are gratefully received by anyone who wishes to pass by and take advantage of the bank''s generosity.
The support of the Lions Club of Rye in this venture is in recognition of the great support and sponsorship offered by the Bendigo Bank to the local community.
Note: Unfortunately at the moment (October 2020) due to covid restrictions we are unable to conduct these free BBQ's however we shall resume the project as soon as restrictions on face to face contact are lifted.
